About the Egyptian Museum



The Egyptian Museum is located in the center of the Egyptian capital, Cairo , Tahrir Square, which is one of the largest and most famous international museums.  The museum was opened in its current location during the era of Khedive Abbas Hilmi II during the year 1902 AD, after the museum’s relics were moved more than once in several locations until it ended up in the current building.

 The museum consists of two main floors, the first floor contains the heavy relics of coffins, paintings and statues displayed according to the historical sequence, while the upper floor contains a variety of archaeological collections, the most important of which are the King Tutankhamun collection and the treasures of Tanis, in addition to two halls for royal mummies.  Among the most important artifacts on display in the museum are the Narmer nave, the King Khufu statue, and the mask of King Tutankhamen in addition to a large number of royal treasures.

Today we join you on an exceptional tour inside the Golden Pharaoh Hall, which displays a side of the treasures of Tutankhamun and on top of it the golden mask, one of the Egyptian antiquities icons and the most famous around the world.

 In November 1922, the English archaeologist Howard Carter made one of the most important archaeological discoveries in history, the tomb of the Golden Pharaoh Tutankhamun, where he found four rooms carved into the rock hidden under the rocks of the Valley of the Kings in Luxor and has more than 5000 wonderful artifacts which were  Witness the life and death of the little king.

 The recent CT scans of Tutankhamun’s mummy yielded exciting new findings about the mummification style of the mummy and confirmed that he was 19 years old when he died, but the cause of death remains unknow .

 The relics of Tutankhamen were recorded in the Egyptian 1934 in the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.  The mask was the ninth piece that was recorded in the archaeology of Tutankhamen in the museum




The Egyptian Museum collections


 Prehistoric era:


This group represents the civilization product of the Egyptian person before knowledge of writing, which settled in many places in Egypt in the north, center and south of the country.  It includes different types of  decorations, fishing tools and the requirements of daily living.

 The Founding Era:


It includes the effects of the first and second dynasties, such as the Naarmar cupboard, the Khmkhi statue, and many other utensils and tools.

 The era of the Old Kingdom:


It includes a set of monuments, the most important of which are the statues of Zosro Khafre and Menkaure, the sheikh of the country, the dwarf Sanab, my first house and his son Mary that Ra, many coffins, statues of individuals, murals, and the collection of Queen Hetep Guards.

 The Middle Kingdom Era:


This collection includes many monuments, the most important of which are the statue of King Montuhab II and a group of statues of some of the family kings 12 such as Senusret I and Amenemhat III and others, and many statues of individuals, coffins, ornaments and tools for daily life, and the pyramids of some of the pyramids of Fayoum. 

 Modern era :


it is the most famous group of antiques, including the group of the little pharaoh Tutankhamun and the statues of Hatshepsut, Tuthmosis III and Ramses II, in addition to war wheels, papyri, ornaments, the collection of Akhenaten, the Israel Painting, the statue of Amenhotep the Third, his wife T, the group of amulets, writing tools, and agriculture, then the group of royal mummies that display  In her own hall, which opened in 1994. 

 Late Ages:


The collection includes various monuments, among them the treasures of Tanis, which represent some traces made of gold, silver and precious stones, which were found in the tombs of some of the kings and queens of the two families 21 and 22 in the maintenance of stone.  This is in addition to some important statues, such as the statue of Amun, monuments, and a statue of the goddess Tauret, the Canopus decision board (Abu Qir), a painting of Anakhi and a collection of monuments of Nubia, some of which were transferred to the Nubian Museum in Aswan.
