The Alexandria National Museum is one of the most important museums in Alexandria, Egypt. The museum contains more than 1,800 artifacts representing most of the eras that passed through the city, which was founded in the year 332 BC.
It is located on Hurriya Road, and the museum building is a former palace of one of the city's wealthy timber traders, Asaad Basile, who built it in the Italian architecture style, and it is considered one of the most famous tourist places in Alexandria.
The palace was sold in 1954 to the US Embassy for 53 thousand Egyptian pounds and bought by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Antiquities for 12 million pounds, which in turn turned it into a national museum for the city of Alexandria and was opened by the Egyptian president on September 1, 2003.
